Founded in 1865, Cornell is New York state’s land-grand university with 4 private colleges (architecture, art and planning, arts and sciences, business and engineering) and 3 colleges that operate under contract with the state- agriculture and life sciences, human ecology and the school of industrial and labor relations where the Ivy education comes at an affordable price. Academically intense, Cornell students are involved in research,studying a plethora of foreign languages and participating in hundreds of study abroad programs.
Admissions Process: Cornell offers Early Decision and Regular Decision.Rigorous academic record, school report, counselor and teacher recommendations, Cornell Writing Supplement are part of the application process. Some programs require an interview and portfolio.Students should check the Cornell website for a list of application items. For Fall 2025, Cornell is test-recommended or score free. For Fall 2026 and beyond, Cornell will require official SAT and ACT scores. Cornell is need blind.
Majors: Cornell offers over 4000 courses and niche majors which are ultra-selective. Computer Science and Engineering are competitive majors. Architecture is a particularly strong program. Hotel Administration is renowned, Fine Arts, History, Government, Environment and Sustainability and Industrial Relations are strong programs as well. All Cornell undergrads take a First-Year Writing seminar. Foreign languages are robust at Cornell. Cornell courses are rigorous and intense.
Students– Students are motivated, serious, studious, smart, active and involved.They are also community and civic-minded. A good number of students hail from NY, approx 10% are international students and almost a quarter of students are Asian-Americans. There are over a 1000 student organizations on campus and celebrations of much-awaited events like Dragon Day and Springfest are well-attended. 35% of students are involved in Greek life.
