The University of Rochester is a strong R1 Research institution offering opportunities for academic growth via its flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum, its motto being “Meliora” which means even better.
The Admissions leadership describes the ideal Rochester student as an “intellectual tinkerer” who capitalizes on the flexible curriculum, is curious, creative, and passionate about learning. They inquire, challenge, and investigate new ideas.
Admission Process-The evaluation process at Rochester is truly holistic. They are also truly test-optional. Virtual Interviews are strongly recommended. The University does not admit by major except to the Eastman Film School.
Majors: Offer 70+ bachelor degrees. Students need to decide their major at the end of Sophomore year. All majors are open to everyone and majors are not impacted. 77% students are involved in undergraduate research either independently, in teams or on faculty-guided projects
Students– The University has 25% international student population. 47% of the student body is male and 43% female and 31% from New York and surrounding areas. The university has over 7200 undergrads enrolled in arts, sciences and engineering and over 12,000 university wide students
